Hotels in Grantham

Grantham is quite a compact town, and there are a small handful of hotels within a close walk of the centre. These are our top picks for an enjoyable trip.

1. Angel and Royal Hotel

Angel and Royal Grantham

This is a hotel with a lot of history behind it, to say the least! It is even claimed that the Angel and Royal in Grantham is the oldest inn in Britain.

The hotel dates back to 1203 and has hosted many high-profiles guests over the centuries, including royalty. Seven kings, including John, Richard III and Charles I, are known to have stayed here, and Oliver Cromwell’s troops were quartered here during the English Civl War.

You can choose from various rooms, from small doubles and twins up to the Junior Suite, all with a feel of luxury. The hotel has been restored and modernised while retaining its essence as an old English coaching inn, with many quirky original features still in place.

Even if you don’t choose to stay at the Angel and Royal, you could come in for a meal at its restaurant and dine among the town’s history, as featured in our guide to things to do in Grantham.
