Pub quizzes in Lincoln: Monday

The Horse & Groom

Tucked just behind the Brayford Waterfront, the Horse & Groom is one of three Ever So Sensible pubs in Lincoln, and we’re big fans of all of them.

Every Monday at the Horse & Groom you can take part in the pub quiz from 8:30pm, with an £1 entry fee per person and a maximum of six people per team. First prize is a £10 gift voucher per person for first place and also the chance of winning a cash jackpot, which is kept in a “lock box” with a code. You have to try and guess the code from a mixture of numbers. The jackpot accumulates from the entry fees each week and rolls over whenever it isn’t won.

Second place gets a round of house drinks, and third place gets a booby prize. If your team happens to come in last place, you have the honour of choosing the “losers’ round” for the next week’s quiz.

Ever So Sensible have a fourth pub just outside Lincoln – check out our review of the Ferry Boat Washingborough (which also has a quiz!).

The Magna Carta

For a classic pen-and-paper pub quiz, come along to the Magna Carta pub on Exchequer Gate, at the heart of the Cathedral Quarter. The quiz runs weekly on Mondays and starts at 7:30pm.

A donation to charity is asked for teams entering the quiz, and the winning team gets a £35 bar tab. The Magna Carta also runs a Kwizzbit quiz on Wednesdays – more on that below.

The Mailbox

How do you like the sound of a free-to-enter quiz, with a £50 prize for the winners? That’s the deal every Monday at the Mailbox, with the quiz kicking off from 8pm.

This is one of our go-to spots in Lincoln when we want to watch live sport with some great deals on classic pub-style food. Quiz night brings entertainment of a different kind, and it’s a very popular one.

Just in case you had any sneaky plans to get your hands on that prize through nefarious means… mobile phones are banned at this quiz to make sure there’s no cheating!

Pub quizzes in Lincoln: Tuesday

The Lion and Snake

With a picturesque uphill setting and one of the best beer gardens in Lincoln against the backdrop of the cathedral, the Lion and Snake has been an institution in the city since the 19th century.

It’s also a pub that moves with the times, and it holds weekly pub quizzes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesday it’s a general knowledge quiz beginning at 9pm.

£1 is the fee to enter the quiz, which puts you in the running to win drink vouchers, as well as a cumulative jackpot every week.

The Royal William IV

Facing out onto the Brayford Waterfront, the Royal William IV is another Ever So Sensible pub. Its Tuesday night quiz has a very popular hosting duo, and works in a similar way to the Monday quiz at the Horse & Groom.

It’s a pound per person to enter, with a cap of six people per team. The winning team gets a £10 voucher each plus the chance to open that cash box, with eight keys hidden among playing cards, and only one that unlocks the cumulative mass of entry fees. If the box isn’t opened, the prize rolls over to the next week. The record prize to date is £385!

Extra prizes include a booby prize for third place, a prize for the best team name, and the chance to select the speciality prize for the following week if you come last.

This is a popular quiz night, so it’s best to book in advance by sending an email to the Royal William IV team.

Pub quizzes in Lincoln: Wednesday

The Birdcage

We love the Birdcage because it’s one of the most creative pubs in Lincoln. You will find all sorts of events on the calendar, from spoken word nights to music and live comedy.

The second and fourth Wednesday of every month is quiz and curry night at the Birdcage. A tenner will get you a delicious curry and a pint! The quiz is £1 to enter, and the money is split among the top three teams.

Check out our article behind the scenes at the Birdcage to find out more about this great community pub.

Woodcocks

Woodcocks is set a little outside Lincoln. Located at Burton Waters, it has a scenic setting near the banks of the Fossdyke Canal. It’s a Marston’s inn with a huge interior, a lovely open beer garden for summery days, and an adventure playground for kids.

The quiz at Woodcocks is on every other Wednesday. It is a mobile-based speed quiz, and you use your phone or tablet to submit answers.

Beginning at 8pm, it costs £2 per person to enter. The winning team gets 80% of the entry fees; second prize is a meal for four. The other 20% of winnings goes into a pot, and whoever gets the nearest answer to the final question has a chance to scoop it by picking the yellow ball from a pot of nine. If there’s no winner, the pot rolls over!

You’ll also find Woodcocks featured in our guide to the best Sunday roast in Lincoln.

The Magna Carta

Come back to the Magna Carta on Wednesdays for a Kwizzbit quiz from 7:30pm. This fun online quiz works via a mobile app, which you will need to download before playing.

Entry is the same as the Magna Carta’s Monday quiz, with a charity donation requested to enter. A £35 bar tab is the prize for the winner.

The Nosey Parker

The Nosey Parker is one of our local pubs on the south side of Lincoln, and it runs two quiz nights a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. The Wednesday quiz is notoriously risqué and very much an adult event. Johnny the quizmaster is known to be quite full on!

It’s £1 to enter per person, and there are cash prizes for the winners. It gets under way at 8:30pm, and this is another online quiz, so remember to bring along your phone or tablet. The quiz is broken up with a bingo session half-way through, which you can enter for £1 per card.

Contact the Nosey Parker Facebook page to book ahead – it’s a popular night, so get in there early.

Pub quizzes in Lincoln: Thursday

The Adam & Eve Tavern

Believed to be the oldest pub in Lincoln, dating back more than 300 years, the Adam & Eve Tavern is a firm favourite of ours! It’s dog friendly, serves good ale, and decent food at a good price. You can always be sure of service with a smile here too.

The Adam & Eve Tavern runs two pub quizzes. Its weekly quiz is on Sundays, which we cover in the relevant section below. But on the first Thursday of every month it’s time for the music quiz.

This is one of only two dedicated music pub quizzes we’ve been able to find in Lincoln. So, if you’re a bit of a music buff – or just like a fun evening out – this is definitely one for you!

The music quiz kicks off at 8pm and it’s £1 to enter, with the money going towards cash prizes for the winners. There’s also a snowball jackpot prize up for grabs.

The William Foster

Every Thursday at the William Foster you can take part in the mobile quiz from 8pm. There’s a special twist, as it is hosted by none other than Shaun Wallace from the Chase! As with the Tuesday quiz at the pub, this one is free to enter.

The winning team gets a £20 bar tab. What’s more, if you manage to get the best score across over 100 participating pubs over the country, you can win up to £1,500.

Akedo

This retro gaming bar is a bit of a hidden gem in central Lincoln, located just a few paces away from the High Street. Every other Thursday they run a quiz with a £25 bar tab up for grabs for the winning team.

It’s free to enter – you just need to turn up and buy some drinks. Various subjects are covering in the quiz, including music, geography, science, general knowledge and – of course – gaming!

The Lion and Snake

On Thursdays at the Lion and Snake it’s time for the weekly music quiz. This is the second of the two music pub quizzes in Lincoln we’ve found, along with the Adam & Eve Tavern on the same night.

The Lion and Snake is next door to the Prince of Wales, with almost-adjoining beer gardens.

The quiz kicks off from 8:30pm. As with the general knowledge quiz on Tuesdays, it’s £1 to enter. There is a cumulative jackpot up for grabs as well as a general prize of drinks vouchers.

Pub quizzes in Lincoln: Friday

The Golden Eagle

South of the city at the very far end of Lincoln High Street, the Golden Eagle is very much our local pub, the place we come if we want a leisurely few pints of an evening. It’s a truly cracking pub if you like your beer, featured in our guide to the best real ale pubs in Lincoln.

There are often fun and interesting events on at the Golden Eagle, from beer festivals to live music to dog agility sessions. And on Friday nights it’s time for the weekly quiz and bingo night.

This is the only pub quiz we’re aware of that takes place on a weekend night in Lincoln. It’s a fun way to end the week, for sure! The quiz is £1 to enter with the winner taking home the pot, and the bingo element adds some extra entertainment.

Pub quizzes in Lincoln: Sunday

The Adam & Eve Tavern

On Sunday nights from 8pm at the Adam & Eve Tavern it’s time for the weekly general knowledge quiz. It’s a similar setup to the monthly Thursday music quiz; entry is £1 per person, which goes towards cash prizes and a snowball jackpot to be won.

Walkabout

If you’ve ever walked up Lincoln High Street on a Friday or Saturday night, you’ve probably noticed the hive of activity and blaring music that is Walkabout. Sundays bring more of a chill vibe, but still an entertaining one, with the weekly quiz.

The pub quiz at Walkabout has some of the most generous prizes of any in town. It’s a particularly popular quiz among the city’s student population, with student hampers, Xboxes and all sorts of other fun prizes often up for grabs.

As a standard there is a £50 bar tab to be won, which increases to £100 during term time from September. Sometimes the quiz rounds involve active participation and challenges. It’s quite different to anything else you’ll find in town! Come along to this popular night and end your weekend with a bang.

The Nosey Parker

We’ve already covered the rather risqué weekly pub quiz on Wednesdays at the Nosey Parker. Sunday nights here bring a more laidback and sociable quiz, with rounds on general knowledge and various fun themes.

This quiz is free to enter, with a £25 prize for the winner and £15 for the runner-up. Ronnie is the quizmaster, who is known for his quick wits and entertaining style.

As with the Wednesday quiz, it’s conducted on mobile devices, so remember to bring your phone or tablet. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.
